Gabe Monzones showcased a dominant performance by taking Race 1 and 2 of the A-Main in Round 1 of the Rebel Box Stock Cup.
The Mercedes C9 LM driver put the entire field on notice by qualifying on Pole with a blistering time of 6.8 seconds. That benchmark was more than a second faster than surprise P2 qualifier Jasper De Lumen controlling another Mercedes C9 LM while Carlos Limjoco was the fastest among the MM GT cars followed by BJ Bataclan on the Mazda 787B LM. Young driver Mason See was the fastest to qualify on the B-Main followed by veteran driver Dindo Monzones. Fil Mayor who set a blistering pace with the Mercedes AMG GT3 during Practice experienced setup issues which made setting a fast lap almost impossible during qualifying.
Gabe Monzones ran away early during Race 1 as Carlos Limjoco, Jasper De Lumen and BJ Bataclan got entangled in the opening lap. This allowed the Mercedes driver to pull away and eventually lap the field in a matter of a few minutes which eventually led to a dominant 7-lap victory over Carlos Limjoco on the Corvette C8.R
Race 2 was more of the same even though it was Gabe who got tangled up with BJ Bataclan in lap 1. Despite his good start, Carlos Limjoco was unable to hold on to the lead as Gabe Monzones overtook him on Lap 12. The rest of the race saw a valiant effort from Limjoco as he tried defending his position in order to prevent the Mercedes C9 from lapping him but it was all in vain as the driver from Batangas used his superior pace to put the Corvette 4 laps down when the race finally ended. A commanding performance by the Mercedes C9 ace.
